As of April 27, 2015, I am stamping all of my one dollar bills and then giving them away! I’m giving them to the homeless and street performers, but also gifting them to people so they can feel the joy of giving. I’m also leaving Give Away Dollars in random places for people to find, like on the windshield of a parked car, on the ground at a supermarket or hidden under the milk at a coffee shop.
The more Give Away Dollars in circulation the better, so I’m encouraging others to follow my lead. It would be wonderful if this went viral and there were thousands of Give Away Dollars out there!
Is it legal to stamp money? YES!
Many people assume that it’s illegal to stamp or write on paper currency, but that’s not the case. It’s illegal to destroy paper currency or deface it so much that it’s no longer recognizable and has to be taken out of circulation. But that’s definitely not what we’re up to. Hey! I think maybe you (or someone) left a giveaway bill on my windshield, very cool! I thought about spending it, but in the end I gave it to this homeless woman and it really made her smile.
This is an awesome idea! I live in Venice CA and I know first hand how many homeless and needy people there are. I just hope that everyone who gets a Giveaway dollar in their change will Give it away!!! I would love to stamp my own dollars, please get back to me, if you live in Socal I could meet with you and have a “stamp party”

I have spent way too long in the service industry and realize that the dollar circulation is huge in the tip world. What about having stamps and pads at your favorite coffee cash registers?
